El-Rufai Proud of Record in Kaduna, Dismisses Calls for Probe
The immediate former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has reiterated his commitment to integrity in his service.
El-Rufai made this assertion in response to a report recommending a probe into his administration.
The ad hoc committee tasked with probing El-Rufai’s government submitted its report on Wednesday.
Upon receiving the report, the Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, disclosed that the administration had misappropriated a total of N423 billion, leaving the state burdened with significant liabilities.
The committee recommended that El-Rufai and other implicated officials be investigated and prosecuted by security and anti-corruption agencies.
Additionally, the report called for the immediate suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, and the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board.
Responding through a statement issued by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai affirmed his pride in his governance record.
“We are aware of reports that the Kaduna State House of Assembly has adopted the ad-hoc committee’s report probing the El-Rufai government. While we await a copy of the report for a robust response, we affirm the integrity of the El-Rufai government and reject the scandalous claims made in the report.
“Malam Nasir El-Rufai is deeply proud of his governance record and the legacy he has left in Kaduna State. His unwavering commitment to high performance in public and private office remains unaltered by malicious attempts to tarnish his reputation through the state legislature.
“Numerous officials who served under the El-Rufai administration willingly appeared before the ad-hoc committee, confident in the quality of their service and the integrity with which they served Kaduna State. However, it became evident that the committee’s inquiry was merely a formality aimed at justifying preconceived conclusions.
“It is regrettable to witness such a departure from decency and fairness by a state legislature. We unequivocally reject the baseless allegations propagated in connection with the report.
“Malam El-Rufai assures discerning Nigerians that he served Kaduna State with integrity and to the best of his ability, supported by a dedicated and patriotic team. He conducted all activities in compliance with relevant laws during his tenure. This biased probe should be disregarded as the politically motivated smear campaign it is.”
