Financial Mismanagement at Lagos State House of Assembly: A Call for Immediate Transparency and Accountability

It has come to our attention, through credible and verifiable sources, that since her emerging as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda has allegedly overseen the disbursement of approximately N18 billion in public funds under questionable circumstances.

As concerned stakeholders, advocates for accountability and transparency, we find it necessary to bring this to the public’s attention.

The people of Lagos deserve to know how their resources are being managed, especially at a time when many communities continue to struggle with inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare, bad state of road infrastructures and declining social standards.

In light of these revelations, we are calling on:
1. The Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly to immediately provide a breakdown of these expenditures for public scrutiny.

2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-corruption agencies to commence an urgent investigation into these financial transactions.

3. Civil society organizations and the media to demand full accountability and transparency from the leadership of the Assembly.

The time for impunity and reckless financial management must end. As we move toward a new era of governance, the people of Lagos must no longer tolerate secrecy in the handling of public funds. We stand for good governance, accountability and transparency.

We will continue to demand answers, and we encourage all well-meaning Lagosians to join this call for financial transparency.
