Kanayo O. Kanayo Warns Nollywood Producers Against Working With Angel Unigwe
Veteran Actor Kanayo O. Kanayo’s Stern Warning
Renowned Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has issued a public warning to film producers in the industry, advising them to cease collaborations with the up-and-coming actress, Angel Unigwe. In a recent video posted on his Instagram page, Kanayo highlighted issues stemming from Angel’s mother, whom he accused of unprofessional behavior and contract breaches. This warning comes after Kanayo’s own negative experience, which he described as a breach of trust and professionalism.
Allegations of Unprofessional Conduct by Angel Unigwe’s Mother
Kanayo recounted a specific incident where Angel Unigwe’s mother allegedly broke a contract by removing her daughter from a film set prematurely. He explained that despite agreeing to a set timeframe, Angel’s mother took her daughter away before the agreed-upon end time, thus disrupting the production process. Kanayo mentioned that this unprofessional conduct was not an isolated incident but rather part of a pattern of behavior that he had heard about from other producers.
“A particular woman has been holding producers to ransom and it is unfortunate it has happened to me. Unfortunately, she is Angel Unigwe’s mother. A contract is breached by every producer, orally or written and it’s all respected but I found out that immediately this woman takes money from you, everything changes. She took her daughter at 9pm when the particular date that we agreed hadn’t expired. She came at 9pm and took her daughter,” Kanayo stated in his video.
Industry Impact and Kanayo’s Call to Action
Kanayo emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism within the Nigerian entertainment industry. He warned that any production involving Angel Unigwe from now until July 1, 2024, would face his intervention to ensure such disruptive practices do not continue. This move, according to Kanayo, is to safeguard the integrity of Nollywood and protect producers from falling victim to similar incidents.
“I have gotten reports from people before it happened to me. This is a clarion call to producers, I beg you in the name of professionalism, from this moment to the first day of July, 2024 any set that employs the services of Angel Unigwe, I will come to that set and make sure filming doesn’t hold. Her mother has been threatening many producers,” Kanayo declared.
The veteran actor’s statement has sparked conversations within the Nollywood community, with many producers and industry professionals evaluating the implications of his warning. The situation underscores the challenges of maintaining ethical standards in the fast-evolving entertainment sector.
