Labour Party Denies Involvement of Peter Obi in ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Protests

The Labour Party (LP) has firmly denied any involvement in organizing the ‘EndBadGovernace’ and ‘Tinubu Must Go’ protests. These demonstrations, planned against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, have been linked to the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The LP has dismissed these claims as unfounded and a figment of Onanuga’s imagination.Labour Party Denies Involvement of Peter Obi in ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Protests

Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, emphasized that the party is committed to peace and has consistently urged its followers to maintain a non-violent stance. He categorically stated, “Labour Party is known for being a very peaceful party and it has at several occasions asked its followers to follow peace at all times. We are not known as a lawless group.” The party reiterated that neither Peter Obi nor his supporters are involved in planning any protests.

Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) Reacts to Accusations

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has also reacted strongly to the accusations from Onanuga. The spokesman for POMR, Mr. Yunusa Tanko, described the allegations as baseless and intended to discredit Peter Obi. Tanko suggested that the accusations were part of a broader scheme to arrest Obi and limit his influence in promoting good governance.

Tanko asserted, “Peter Obi by his mien in and out of political office has not in any way shown or been associated with violence even in the most obvious provocations.” He added that efforts to tarnish Obi’s reputation are attempts to distract Nigerians from the pressing issues caused by the current administration’s policies.

Labour Party’s Commitment to Peaceful Advocacy

The Labour Party emphasized its commitment to peaceful advocacy and its role as the main opposition party. The party highlighted that protests are often a reflection of public discontent and are not necessarily orchestrated by political opponents. Ifoh stated, “Peaceful protests all over the world are initiated and executed by the people and not by the opposition.”

The LP called for caution among presidential aides, urging them to avoid making statements that could incite further unrest. The party believes that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges if appropriate policies are implemented and advised the government to focus on addressing the root causes of public dissatisfaction.Labour Party Denies Involvement of Peter Obi in ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Protests
